Despite Arlin's large and bulky appearance, he goes about things in a gentle and overly cautious way. Even down to his speaking; saying words in a slow and clear way, though with a deep and intimidating inflection in the background. While he's gentle in most cases, in a fight, Arlin is an absolute powerhouse, though prefers to use his body in battle moreso than his flame breath.
Arlin looks up to Ellie and admires her dearly, though keeps a very calculated distance between them, both physically and emotionally. In the past, he was all over Ellie, and the two were as tight knit as could be. But ever since the incident, in which Arlin went beserk and lunged at Ellie, taking her eye and half her face, plus scarring Yuki as they threw itself in the way to protect Ellie, Arlin has been terrified of ever hurting her again, and keeps himself as far as he can be while still being close enough to protect her from dangers if need be. He's very regretful, even though it was out of his control and Ellie doesn't hold it against him, and gives every request from she has his all as a sort of repentance to himself.
